SLIDE PLAY is a body of work created from digital images of PARQUE URPICHA (little dove in Quechua) in Cusco, Peru. Mayor DANIEL ESTRADA PEREZ (1983-1989) built PARQUE URPICHA in the mid 80s after the 1986 earthquake. He was one of the first mayors to re-vitalize the identity of the city and its people by building a series of social structures for Cusquenians. He built such structure as Cusco’s main municipal theatre, green spaces, parks, gardens, sculptural monuments and PARQUE URPICHA for the children.

I’ve made many visits to Parque Urpicha with my nephew and godson. I was inspired by the structures built for this amusement park, unlike manufactured amusement parks in the United States these constructions are built to specification making them uniquely one of a kind. As an artist I take great joy in the sculptural presence of these forms. After many visits I have a collection of digital images documenting these structures. Over the years I have been engaged in SLIDE PLAY… reconstituting the slide into two-dimensional forms.
