Artist Bio
Jennifer Zackin was born in 1970 in Waterbury, Connecticut. She acquired a Bachelor of Fine Arts at The New School in New York City and a Masters of Fine Arts at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Her interdisciplinary work (sculpture, installation, and video) has been included in numerous exhibitions. In 2006 Jennifer will have a solo exhibition at the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art featuring the work she completed in Peru in 2004/2005. In 2005 she was commissioned to create an installation on Governor’s Island for the “Set and Drift” exhibition sponsored by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. Artspace in New Haven, CT commissioned Jennifer for the Factory Direct Program to create work at Pinchbeck Rose Farm in Guilford, CT. The Katonah Museum of Art commissioned Jennifer to create another version of her tree wrapping work she originally created at Socrates Sculpture Park. In 2004 she participated in solo exhibitions at the Alianza Francesa in Lima, PERU and at ICPNA in Cusco, Peru. Reverse Negatives at the Gershman y Borowsky Gallery in Philadelphia, PA. Social Studies: Eight Artists Address Brown v. Board of Education at the Krannert Art Museum in Illinois, Splat, Boom, Pow at the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus, Ohio and at the Henie Onstad Kunstsenter, Høvikodden, NORWAY. In 2003 she was included in Somewhere Better Than This Place, Contemporary Art Center, Cincinnati, Ohio. Family Ties, Peabody Essex Museum, Peabody, MA. Splat, Boom, Pow: Contemporary Art and Comics at the Contemporary Art Museum in Houston, Texas and traveled to the ICA in Boston, MA and in Commodification of Buddhism, Bronx Museum of the Arts in Bronx, New York. In 2002 she created an outdoor installation for Socrates Sculpture Park (in LIC New York) and was featured in the 2002 Whitney Biennial, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY. La Galleria de Euriodiomas, Lima, Peru, Rumors of War, Triple Candie, New York, NY. In 2001 she participated in the Aim 21, Bronx Museum of Arts, New York, NY, Freestyle, The Studio Museum in Harlem, New York, NY & The Santa Monica Museum of Art, Santa Monica, California, Not Quite Myself Today, Arizona State University Art Museum, Tempe, Arizona. Her work has been featured on the Charlie Rose Show and The Chicago Morning News on WGN.
Zackin has been an Artist-in-Residence in the Factory Direct Program New Haven, CT (2004), Art Omi International, Omi, New York (2002), Socrates Sculpture Park, Long Island City, New York (2002), Atlantic Center for the Arts, New Smryna Beach, Florida (2001), Artist in the Marketplace, Bronx, New York (2001), International Center for Cultural Development, Trivandrum, India (2000), Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, VT (1999), Skowehegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Skowhegan, Maine (1998). Her work is collected by The Jewish Museum in New York City, Company CCT in Berlin, Germany and The Marketing Store World Wide in Illinois.
