TREE WRAPPING: Taps, 2005

Commissioned by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council:

The brightly colored ropes that mark the trees along Ligget Hall represent the notes from the melody "Taps." This bugle call - traditionally played at the close of the day and during military funerals - sounded nightly from the rooftop of the Hall during the Island's Army and Coast Guard era. The colors correspond to the wavelengths of the notes and act as a visual farewell to the Island's military past.
