Jennifer Zackin's transdisciplinary practice illuminates the seen and unseen networks that sustain life, nurtures regenerative relationships with the land and community, and inspires collective stewardship. In the Soil Series, she creates vibrant abstract compositions that explore the elemental forces of biodiversity. Nature in turn inspires her drawings, paintings, and social sculptures, some of which have transformed empty lots into community hubs for art and soil building.
In response to social and environmental challenges, she has upcycled burlap coffee bags into an offering station where medicinal plants, shells, and stones are available to be used as offerings inviting visitors to take what they need to add to a communal stone altar (cairn); organized communal weaving events; wrapped a grove of trees with brightly colored rope to make visible the unseen relationships that shape the living world; and created over 200 absorbent tentacles from sheep’s wool and colorful stockings evoking endangered sea anemones to raise awareness of the devastation of oil spills on marine life. Artist Residency at Chokechaka
Founded by Jennifer Zackin and musician Adolfo Ibáñez Ayerve, Chokechaka is an artist residency in Peru's Sacred Valley of the Incas. The year-round program welcomes artists, musicians, curators, scholars, and cultural workers for 1-4+ week residencies in Huaran, near Cusco. Residents pursue creative work while engaging with Andean culture, traditional weaving practices, and the Sacred Valley's rich landscape and history. Jennifer's ongoing connection to Peru deeply informs her sculptural practice and collaborative work.
