7 chairs (2022)

The design of a chair can serve as a marker of a particular era or a reflection of a specific historical moment. In the 7 Chairs series, Zackin repurposes late 20th-century lawn furniture and three tractor seat stools as armatures for imaginary three-dimensional landscapes. Using materials close at hand—colorful rope and fabric scraps—she constructs gravity-defying, underwater-like worlds, mountain ranges, escape hatches, and refuges. While ordinary chairs support the human form in defying gravity, 7 Chairs themselves exist in a topsy-turvy realm of the unexpected. In this world, where floating is an option, new perspectives emerge, stability is redefined, and transformation becomes possible.
