As part of the Mapping the Sawkill Watershed Project, we're teaming up with the Permaculture Land Trust, Trees for Tribs and the Town of Woodstock to plant 70 native trees and shrubs along the Tannery Brook. This hands-on workshop, facilitated by Andrew Faust of the Permaculture Land Trust, will teach participants the skills, techniques, and importance of planting healthy riparian buffers along the streams in our Sawkill Watershed. The 70 native plants are provided by the Hudson Estuary Trees for Tributaries Program. Riparian buffers help protect our waterways by reducing pollution, erosion, and flood damage while providing important habitat for fish, birds, and other wildlife. Come learn, plant, and help care for our local watershed.

Andrew Faust is a visionary permaculture and bioregional educator who has been studying the synergy between permaculture and biodynamic agriculture since completing his permaculture design training in 1996. He is one of the premier permaculture teachers and designers in North America with over two decades of experience in the field. Faust received a dual diploma in Design and Education from the Permaculture Institute of North America in 2016, released Earth Is Our Home in 2024, a bioregional permaculture design book, and co-founded the Permaculture Land Trust in 2022.

This planting is part of the Mapping the Sawkill Watershed Project, a multi-part initiative designed to build relationships with Woodstock's waterways and with one another through shared exploration, learning, and stewardship.
