As part of the Mapping the Sawkill series, join performance artist Linda Mary Montano for a free interactive workshop featuring a one-hour chakra sounding connecting with the second chakra, the chakra of water, followed by a chicken dance workshop.

The session takes place at the Mothership Gallery in celebration of the Summer Solstice, and honors the teachings of Steve Miller of World Laughter Tour and the teachings of Pauline Oliveros' Sonic Meditations.

Linda Mary Montano is a seminal figure in contemporary feminist performance art. Working since the mid-1960s, her practice explores the boundaries between art and life through everyday activities, actions, and communication as rite and ritual. She is known for her groundbreaking work 14 Years of Living Art (1984 to 1998), based on the chakra teachings of Shri Brahmananda Saraswati, during which she lived wearing strictly monochromatic clothing and devoted herself to meditative practice. In 1983 to 1984, she collaborated with Tehching Hsieh on Art/Life: One Year Performance, a remarkable year-long work during which the two artists were bound together by rope 24 hours a day. Montano has been featured at The New Museum in New York, MOCA in San Francisco, and the ICA in London, and her award-winning work continues to explore spiritual transformation, empathy, and the dissolution of boundaries between artistic practice and lived experience.
